Hey guys! Something that we believe will be amazing about this blog is the fact that we will get to share our faith and talk about our relationship with God with you all. In honor of two-a-day Kentucky cheer practices starting tomorrow, we wanted to reflect on how cheerleading played an important role in strengthening our relationship with God.
So, here we go…
We have always grown up with God in our lives. We were raised in a Christian home where our parents always taught us how to be more like Christ and love the Lord. We also attended a private Christian school growing up so God was always at the center of everything. However, even though we believed in God and knew He was our creator, we weren’t truly seeking Him out every day. Most of the time it felt like we were just going through the motions. We would go to church every Sunday, memorize scriptures, and attend chapel every week but we felt like we were Christians just because that was the way we grew up. Although we knew we believed in God and always had a connection with Him, we didn’t know what it truly meant to have a close relationship with Him.
Our relationship with God started to change during our senior year of high school. We were both making the decision of where we wanted to go to college and were extremely stressed and nervous about the future. Our top pick for college was the University of Kentucky. We have both wanted to be Kentucky Cheerleaders ever since we started cheerleading at a very young age. However, the University of Kentucky is the #1 college cheerleading team in the nation and we knew that it would be extremely difficult and competitive for not just one, but both of us to make the team.
During the entire tryout process, we were very overwhelmed and fearful, but we asked God to guide us and help us with every decision we made. We knew that we couldn’t do it on our own and needed His help in all aspects of our lives. By praying to God, reading His word, and seeking Him day in and day out, we knew no matter what happened that God had our best interests in mind.
The one continual verse that we kept thinking in our heads throughout the entire process was Philippians 4:13 (our favorite verse) which says, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” This verse kept us going and kept reminding us that God would strengthen us for anything on the road ahead. All we had to do was trust His perfect plan for our lives.
We ended up both making the team and that was so rewarding. However, the most rewarding thing we got out of it was how close our relationship with God had become. It was during this time of uncertainty that our faith was strengthened and we committed to focus on God’s plan for our lives. We learned to love God and trust Him with every fiber of our heart. God helped us overcome so many obstacles and allowed us to achieve our wildest dream. Without Him, none of it would have been possible.
The best thing we learned from this whole journey was that God has a great story for each and every person’s life. He is a trustworthy God that will always come through for us. He created us ON purpose FOR a purpose. We are his masterpiece and His plans for us are SO GOOD! God loves you more than you will ever imagine and His love for you is unconditional.
