Living a healthy lifestyle is very important to us, so we thought we would share some of our favorite health tips we swear by! These tips have helped us so much and have made such a huge difference in our lives!
Drink water: Hydration is SO, SO important!! One of the first things we do when we wake up (yes, even before coffee) is drink a tall glass of water. (Tip: Fill up a water bottle and keep it next to your bed so it’s right there when you wake up!) Drinking water is one of the best things you can do for your body. It helps flush out toxins, boosts your metabolism, hydrates your body, and makes your skin glow. We carry water bottles with us everywhere we go, whether we are in class, at the gym, or at home.
Eat breakfast: We truly believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Starting your day off with a nutritious breakfast will help kick-start your metabolism and help you feel energized! The best breakfast should have a good amount of carbs, protein, and healthy fats to keep you satisfied and fueled for the day!
Make Time for the gym: We are super busy with school, cheerleading, and the everyday struggles of being a college student, so we know how hard it is to find time to go to the gym. However, we ALWAYS make it a priority to carve out time to go workout. For us, going to the gym is a huge stress reliever and makes us feel amazing. We promise you will NEVER regret a workout. Try to schedule workouts into your planner like you would anything else you wouldn’t miss! A major tip is to plan your workouts in advance! We always do this so that when we get to the gym we know exactly what to do and we can be productive with our time! Our workouts will be coming soon 🙂
Shop smart: Create a grocery list filled with nutritious foods in order to stick to your healthy eating plan. Try to shop the perimeter of the grocery store where the fresh foods like veggies, fruits, and lean meats are located and avoid the junk food aisles! If you don’t buy anything unhealthy, there will be no tempting foods in your house to eat!
Meal prep: Meal prepping different foods like meat and veggies in advance will truly set you up for success. We almost ALWAYS meal prep for the week ahead. We like to go to the grocery store on Sunday to make sure that we have healthy food all throughout the week! If you do this, you will never have an excuse to eat unhealthy!
Load up on veggies: I know this sounds crazy, but we LOVE vegetables! We try and eat veggies with every meal and incorporate them any way that we can. Vegetables are so good for you and they keep you feeling full without all the calories! Some of our favorites are broccoli, brussel sprouts, and cauliflower!
Moderation not Deprivation: Being healthy is very important to us and has become a big part of our lives. However, we are also MAJOR foodies and have the biggest sweet tooths ever. Some of our favorite foods are ice-cream, french fries, and donuts (especially the caramel bacon donut from Magees, our fav local bakery in Lex). Instead of completely eliminating these foods from our diet (which would make us go a little crazy), we like to follow the 80/20 rule. We eat clean, nutrient-dense foods 80 percent of the time and eat some unhealthy foods 20 percent of the time. We like to have a “cheat meal” where we eat what we want for one meal and then just get back on track right after! It’s all about balance and portion control! When you indulge, don’t feel guilty about it. It is important to treat yourself every now and then in order to help you in the long run and make healthy eating part of your lifestyle!
